As a Cosmetic and Implant Dentist, We Can Replace Your Loose Dentures

Implant DentistIf you are tired of wearing dentures, visit our Albuquerque implant dentist office to learn how we can replace them with a new and secure dental implant. As a cosmetic dentist, we have several ways to replace your teeth including dentures, bridges, and implants. All three are dependable solutions, but nothing can compare to the strength and durability of an implant. If you are looking for an easy solution that will work well enough to make you forget you ever lost a tooth, this is the right solution for you.

Why are implants so secure?

As a cosmetic dentist, we are regularly asked why implants are better than other solutions, and it all comes down to science. As an implant dentist, we use titanium posts that are surgically placed under your gums and secured to your jawbone. The body treats titanium as naturally occurring matter. As a result, the bone and metal fuse together, creating a sturdy base. Once osseointegration is complete, the titanium post will have the same stability a natural root system.

Thus, the tooth will not fall out or become loose when eating, speaking, or running a marathon. It also means the jawbone will receive the stimulation it needs to prevent resorption from occurring. This mutually beneficial relationship between the jawbone and implant makes this the best long-term solution for oral health and appearance.

The Process

When replacing dentures with implants, the first step is to call and schedule a dental exam. We will examine the teeth and take X-rays, so we can determine if the patient is healthy. We may need to treat a cavity or two prior to beginning the procedure. Next, we will look at the X-rays to see if there is enough bone density to ensure the jawbone can support the implant. If not, we may recommend a bone grafting procedure. Once ready, we will have the patient come in for a surgical procedure, where we will be given anesthesia for comfort. We will then place a titanium post under the gums and secure it to the jawbone in each spot the patient is missing a tooth.

Patients can expect to be somewhat sore for a few days and to have some swelling in the mouth. Ibuprofen and the use of ice packs will help to treat these symptoms. It does take a couple of months to complete osseointegration. During this time, patients may want to wear a temporary denture to preserve appearance. Afterward, the patient will come back in so we can attach an abutment to the implant and secure a dental crown. As a cosmetic dentist, we will ensure your new crown looks like a natural tooth and blends in completely. As an implant dentist, we will ensure your new tooth is secure. The result is a new tooth (or teeth) that look and function as well as your natural ones.
