Dental crowns, bridges and implants are all dental techniques Dr. Garcia uses to help restore the integrity of your mouth. Whether you’ve lost a tooth to an accident, gum disease, tooth decay or other issue, these restorative dental techniques can help restore your beautiful smile.
Crowns
Dental crowns are used to restore and protect a tooth that has been:
- Damaged by decay or a crack
- Worn down
- Filled
- Implanted
There are many types of materials that can be used to make crowns, including porcelain, stainless steel, porcelain-fused-to-metal and ceramics. The type of material will be determined by your needs and desired aesthetic results. The procedure for dental crowns takes place over two visits to prepare the tooth and to place the crown. Once any decay is removed and the tooth stabilized, an impression will be made on which to model the crown. Dr. Garcia will cement or bond the crown onto your tooth during your second visit.
Bridges
Dental bridges provide a number of benefits for your smile when you’ve lost a tooth or teeth, including:
- Restoring the overall appearance of your smile
- Restoring the overall stability of your mouth
- Preventing the shifting or drifting of remaining teeth
- Maintaining the integrity of your face
Dental bridges usually take two appointments for preparation and placement. The material that will be used will be determined by your needs, the health of your remaining teeth and your cosmetic goals. The remaining teeth around a gap will be prepared during your first visit, which includes impressions of the area where the dental bridge will be placed. The components of the bridge will be fixed during your second appointment.
Implants
A
dental implant is an artificial tooth that is placed into the space left by a lost tooth. Dental implants restore integrity to your mouth by preventing the shifting or drifting of remaining teeth. There are two types of dental implants:
- Endosteal, which is implanted into the jawbone
- Subperiosteal, which is placed on top of the jawbone with metal framework
The implant procedure that will meet your needs will depend upon how many teeth need to be implanted and any other procedures that will accompany the implantation, such as bridge work. When you meet with
Dr. Garcia, he will help you determine the procedure that will best meet your dental needs, goals and budget. But whichever solution you choose, you can be sure that Dr. Garcia and his staff will take care of you with skilled, gentle and experienced cosmetic and restorative dentistry from an Albuquerque dentist.
