Freedom from Gingivitis

We’re celebrating our freedom next month and so in our office, we’d like to celebrate freedom from gingivitis!

What is Gingivitis?

Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums caused by plaque, the sticky film of bacteria that forms on teeth and gums. Besides causing inflammation, why is gingivitis a bad thing? Because it is the first stage of gum disease and the only stage of gum disease that is treatable and reversible! Advanced stages of gum disease can only be controlled. How do you know if you have gingivitis? Typical symptoms include:
  • Red, swollen gums
  • Tender gums
  • Gums that bleed when you brush
  • Receding gums (gums pulling away from your teeth)
  • Recurring bad breath and/or a bad taste in your mouth
If you have any of these symptoms, the next step is to make an appointment with Dr. Garcia and his team. They will be able to diagnose gingivitis and come up with a treatment plan for your unique situation.

Gaining Freedom from Gingivitis: Prevention and Treatment

When it comes to gingivitis, the best way to gain freedom is to prevent it in the first place! Help keep your teeth and gums stay healthy by:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes, morning and night

However, if you already have gingivitis, your treatments could include:

  • The twice-daily use of special mouth rinses
  • The use of special water picks to deep-clean teeth at home
  • Scaling and root planning of deep pockets caused by advanced gingivitis

Your treatment will be specific to your needs; Dr. Garcia will meet with you to address your concerns and to come up with a treatment plan so you can have healthy teeth once more!So next month, takes steps to gain freedom from gingivitis with help from an experienced, full-service Albuquerque dentist!
