Next, an impression of the patient's lower and upper jaw will be taken, which is used to make the dentures. It will take a few weeks for the custom made dentures to be completed.
The second appointment consists of the patient having the dental implants placed within their jawbone, which is a surgical process. The oral surgeon will decide where to place the implants so that they are able to offer the most support when connecting to the dentures. Two of the implants are placed near the front of the mouth, while the other two will be placed near the back of the mouth. Temporary teeth will be placed so that chewing can take place. Then, the patient should expect a recovery time of about four months.
Once the implants have fully healed, the third appointment is when the patient can start wearing their new custom made dentures. The temporary artificial teeth will be removed and the patient can start wearing their new dentures, which will be permanent.
